Quick answer: every plan shows its full operating system list in the order form. Pick a line and location on the store page, and the dropdown labelled Operating System, Image, Blueprint or AMI is the live catalog for that exact plan. The summary below reflects what is orderable as of August 2026.
How to check the list before you order
OS availability is set per provider line, and occasionally per location. The order form always shows the current list for the plan you are configuring, so treat this article as a map and the configurator as the source of truth. Lists evolve as providers add releases and retire end of life images.
Vultr Linux VPS
The widest catalog we sell. Current families and versions:

Application blueprints with the stack preinstalled: WordPress (including Multisite), LAMP, Nginx, Node.js, Django, Ruby on Rails, MEAN, GitLab CE, Ghost, Magento, PrestaShop, Joomla, Drupal, Redmine, plus cPanel and WHM or Plesk hosting stacks.
The Windows line offers Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022, and SQL Server 2019 or 2022 Express images.
Amazon EC2
Our EC2 line currently ships Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04 and Debian 12 and 13. If you need a different image on EC2 hardware, check Lightsail first, then open a ticket.

Your distro is not listed?
Open a support ticket and tell us which line and which image you need. Where the upstream provider supports an image we can usually add it to the catalog; recent additions have included newer Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenBSD releases. We cannot promise images a provider does not offer, and niche images may take a little longer to wire up.
Reinstalling or changing OS later
Depending on the line, you can reinstall from the service management panel or ask us to rebuild the instance via ticket. A rebuild wipes the disk, so back up anything you care about first. If you are unsure which applies to your service, open a ticket and we will point you to the right path.
Not sure which OS to pick?
A few rules of thumb that hold across every line we sell. If you just want a server that works and keeps getting security updates for years, pick the newest Ubuntu LTS or Debian stable on your line; both have enormous community documentation and nearly every guide in our knowledgebase assumes one of them. If your tooling expects the Red Hat world, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are the drop in successors to CentOS, and CentOS Stream is the rolling preview rather than the stable server choice it used to be. Pick Fedora when you want current packages more than long support windows. The BSDs on Vultr and Lightsail are first class images, but check driver and panel tooling expectations first if you have never run one. When in doubt, the newest LTS image on the list is almost never the wrong answer.
